alternativ etno, etno rock, punk, dub
Drums, bass and 6 exceptional female voices that shatter the stage to pieces. Vrelo is the expression of the rare and the echo of authenticity coming straight from the heart of Serbia. Who would have thought Slavic folklore ballads could sound so well in an alternative shock? Vrelo knows how to play tradition with an edge. Their music is imposing and unpredictable as a force of nature, at times mild, dipped into jazz and folk whispers, at times raging into rock or electro roars.
Formed in 1999, Vrelo has gradually developed up to the surprising approach that the current musical project proposes and that has rightfully gained their reputation both in their native Balkans as well as in the entire Europe. In 2007 Vrelo wins the second place at BBC’s prestigious competition, The Next Big Thing, being chosen from over 2500 artists from 88 countries. Together with other successful releases and publications, Vrelo can pride itself also with the inclusion of one of their songs in the BBC compilation 20 BEST TRACKS FROM AROUND THE WORLD released in 2007.
Other than working on their own music, VRELO has great luck and privilege to cooperate with several top artists as it is the one with Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra. In the summer of 2003 Vrelo took part in the recording of the soundtrack for the film “Life is a Miracle” of the famous director, the collaboration with Kusturica continuing in 2007 when the group becomes part of the cast in his punk opera “Time of the Gypsies”, performed in Paris at the Opera Bastille. VRELO and Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra still work together with success. Other than the engagement in the opera, VRELO are occasionally guests and support the concerts of TNSO.
